Finding Inspiration in Everyday Life

Sometimes it’s hard to find inspiration for our homes, from Pinterest to Instagram and even in furniture stores. There is so much information out there it can seem overwhelming! Let’s look at a few different ways to find your decor style, whether you are still figuring out your own or love to find new ways to look at life!

Clothing and Accessories

Many times we just need to look at our own closets to find our style. We’ve already put the work into our wardrobe, why not apply it to our homes? Go to your closet and pull out your top 5 favorite items. This could be clothing, jewelry, hats, you name it. Lay them out on your bed and see if there are any recurring themes…most of us will find a neutral we are drawn to like black, navy, white or cream. If you have your favorite jewelry out, what metal is it? Hats and purses are great for inspiration because they already have many texture! These patterns, colors, textures and metals are your favorites already, so when you are searching for that perfect piece or need help with a palette, let them guide you!

Back to Nature

One of our favorite places to find inspiration is right outside our doors! Nature offers so many colors, patterns, textures and movement. Sometimes just taking a walk on a trail or strolling through greenhouses can help get your creative juices flowing! We each tend to be drawn to specific flowers, leaves, colors and shapes. This is also true in our home designing! If we start to reflect our design choices on things that already bring us serotonin, imagine how much more relaxed our brains would be daily in our homes!

Get Shopping!

Starting looking at stores, just not the ones you think! We’ve already covered how we can be motivated by everyday non-decor items. And most of us already have our go-to stores. Ask yourself a few questions the next time you shop: why do I like this store? Is there something about the displays or building I love? What color flowers am I drawn to? Do I like everything bright and cheery when I shop or do I prefer dark and moody? Hopefully this has helped you see your design style in a different way.
