Dark and Dreamy
Dark Kitchen Cabinets… would you dare?
Although there is something satisfying about a white and bright kitchen, it’s not for everyone or every space. A dark stained or painted cabinet can make kitchens feel rich and warm, giving way to lighter finishes like carrara marble countertops and beautiful wood floors. As we start a dark kitchen project with one of our clients, creating a space that works with dark cabinetry has us inspired to share kitchens we have found and come to love!
This kitchen by Rafter house is the perfect blend between modern and farmhouse. Warm rich wood tones help keep the black cabinets from overwhelming the space. And who doesn’t love that backsplash?!
Let’s talk about lighting. And we don’t mean the ones hanging over an island! One key thing to a kitchen with dark cabinets is natural lighting. Consider open shelving on top or opening up a wall for windows. Ceiling lights help us see in the dark but letting the sun in will keep a dark kitchen bright during the day.

Don’t forget dark doesn’t always mean black or gray! This dark Eden Green from Stoffer Home Cabinetry gives a warm, rich feel, complimented by gold accents and wood accessories.

When choosing a dark color cabinet, remember to consider a black stained wood. Your wood species selection is typically more varied than with painted. Plus the graining is not lost and can add depth to your space!
