The Green Tile Project
This house has been one for the books! When we first saw this house it was already in the demo process so our befores look worse than they really were. Let’s start with the kitchen. The oak cabinets, yellow walls and fruit inspired back splash was enough to make anyone ready to run for the hills. The desire to just tear everything out and start fresh was quite large, but the home owner really wanted to keep some things true to this house.

They loved the richness of the oak cabinets and didn’t want to just cover them up with white paint. So we decided to updated the look by adding a white Carrara countertop, matte black handles and a light gray hand crafted subway tile!

Another fun area for us to design was the lower level bar area. Again, we wanted to keep it original to the house with slight updates. The previous home owner had a large aquarium that fit in the large wall opening and they grew coral inside of it. We ended up putting a large mirror in that space with shelves so our client could display their trophies! Two floating shelves were also added to balance out the long wallm all of the lights fixtures were switched out and the ceiling gained height by removing the squares and adding drywall.

The cabinets were painted in addition to new flooring and counter tops.

If you notice in the before photo of the bar area there is a fire place in the back ground. The original plan was to just paint it a gray or white color, but after selecting this tile with a lot of texture and a more modern feel, we ended up re-tiling the fire place as well!

Sometimes plans don’t always go accordingly, but we really love how this last minute decision turned out!

Tiling this area allowed us to throw out the monster of a fire place insert, close up the awkward opening and giving it a more modern, updated feel.

The fireplace upstairs had the same brick but with a gray grout, so we decided to keep this one original and just re-stain the wood surround.

Such a small fix really updated this space and kept the main floor consistent to it’s more tradition feel!
Now on to my favorite room and the reason why we call this house the Green Tile Remodel. We really didn’t this room besides giving a fresh coat of paint to the walls, trim and doors!
The final vision for this room, once our client moves in, will be a play area for the grand kids. Envision a large white fluffy area rug with wicker furniture on a beautiful sunny day, while the kids hang out in their domain.
